Thanksgiving 2025
24–29/11/2025
Thank you, Tojeira, for an unforgettable Thanksgiving week. From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly well cared for. Chef Ania cooking was out of this world! We may have ordered way too much food, but every single dish was worth it (the sea bass tartare will be talked about in our family for years). She somehow navigated our complex web of dietary restrictions for a group of 16 with ease, and we always felt included and spoiled. The farm-to-table Thanksgiving dinner was truly special: a beautiful fusion of place and tradition, and the local wines (many, many!) made each evening feel like a celebration. Every dinner felt like an orchestrated work of art.
We are also so grateful for the warm, thoughtful service from Clara and Rafael, who were always kind, attentive, and approachable; and to Raquel, who made the whole planning and booking process smooth and stress-free from the very beginning. It made traveling as four families so much easier.
The house itself is stunning! The architecture, the interiors, the little details everywhere gave us the space and comfort we needed to slow down and enjoy time together. We loved exploring the grounds, walking down to the river with Toji and Boby (their special dogs!), being followed by the curious donkeys as if they were part of the group. The yoga class was a lovely, calming pause in the middle of an otherwise busy trip. The pastel de nata cooking class was joyful and delicious — we left more confident in the kitchen and even more in love with Portuguese cuisine.
Thank you for giving our families such a beautiful place to create memories together. We leave full, happy, and already hoping to return.
With gratitude,
The McCarthy, Attin, Gryng, Chuk & Messina families
Let's go back!
I'm speechless about this place and its hosts, Bruno and Raquel. We booked this place to do a small, high-quality wellness retreat and we all had a wonderful time.
Bruno was ultra responsive while we were planning the logistics and continued to go above and beyond to make us feel great.
The villa itself and the grounds on the property are exactly as in the pictures. In fact, they exceeded expectations. The vegetables in the garden were DELICIOUS and the farm animals were super friendly.
We arrived in autumn, with trees changing color and just enough fine rain to inspire us to spend some extra time by the fire 😍
The stone details that dress the property and the terraces give the feeling of staying in an old castle, but with the amenities and coziness I expect in luxury hotels.
We've heard how much love and work has gone into bringing this space up to these standards and we really hope they continue to grow as an eco-friendly business
The house is amazing! Generous, so that even with 12, it is still easy to break away and find some quiet time when desired. The 3 Master Suites are superb, and the guest wing, on the upper floor, provides accommodation for up to 8, with a lounge area. The property is huge, with a pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, as well as land swooping down to a beautiful little river with small ponds. There is also aworking farm, fenced off, with donkeys, chicken, cows, sheep and goats. We loved to visit the donkeys and feed them carrots. And when a new goat baby arrived, there was cuteness overload. There are fresh eggs for breakfast every day and the vegetable garden is full of tomatoes, zucchini, and many more vegetables.
The house is superbly equipped and has everything one could possibly need for 10-15 people, including a BBQ, pizza oven, ice maker, even a sous vide cooking set. A Sonos sound system and boom boxes for outside are also available.
This place is not just a beautiful house with a view of Vila Real, but it is a great base to explore the north of Portugal. We love the outdoors and brought our mountain bikes. We explored the Corgo Valley from Regua to Vidago. And we took the super scenic roads to Pinhao and Regua in the Douro Valley, took a boat trip on the Douro, did Port wine tastings and enjoyed the delicious hearty food of Northern Portugal. The Parque Natural do Alvao is close with it’s famous waterfalls, that descend, in several steps, about 400 m.
Some of our visitors took buses to Porto and Lisbon for a couple nights, which turned out to be easy and convenient too.
The house also has several vehicles, that were available to us. We took a Can Am off-road buggy toexplore the trails around Marao, Cravelas and Alvao. Sometimes we took the UMM (a Portuguese off road vehicle similar to a Land Rover) for grocery runs or to pick up and drop off visitors at the bus terminal in Vila Real – it can transport 8 at a time.
Bruno, the owner of the property was always available and a valuable source of plenty of detailedlocal information. He also helped with his knowledge and connections, when we had some minor problems, like a flat car tire.
Clara, the ‘governess’ is there 4 hrs a day during the week to help keeping things in order. Or, she canhelp with cookin breakfast or teach how to cook Pasteis de Nata and Rissois.
Duarte is the farmer and handyman, always available and helpful if anything mechanical needs attention.Whenever we got out and met with Portuguese, in a restaurant, or out in the country-side, we were each time amazed how friendly everybody is.
Many times, folks just came up to us and struck up a conversation – in French, English, Spanish or just hand gestures. One day we were out in the off-roadbuggy and saw several hikers on the road: We stopped and asked what was going on. It turns out there was a festival in a small village nearby. So we went there, parked the car and mingled in the procession with the local orchestra, talked to folks (including the village police officer) and just felt at home and welcome.

Do yourself a favor and book this house right now. We stayed here with two families – four kids and four adults. The house exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed walking the vast property, seeing the animals roam, checking out the garden, and spending time in the pool, sauna, and Jacuzzi.
We debated staying in a different house that was slightly closer to the vineyards that we would be visiting, but are so glad that we chose this instead.
The accommodations were so welcoming and comfortable. We could’ve had two more families there with us and would not have felt cramped. We spent our mornings on the property, ventured out in the afternoons, and returned for dinner every night.
We really enjoyed spending time at the house. Clara greeted us and provided everything we needed for a wonderful stay. Would absolutely stay here again!
Their communication and help before our trip was so thorough and helpful - we are very grateful!
